Weekdays tend to be quiet but there is lots of entertainment over the weekends in the run up to Christmas. Starting from Ravenglass Station, enjoy a magical journey on the Santa Express on weekends during December (more frequent service during the school holidays). The Eskdale Valley looks enchanting in the snow and you can sit back and enjoy the journey from the comfort of the carriages. Kendal Christmas Arts AND Crafts Fair runs until Sunday 16th December at the Westmorland Shopping Centre in Kendal. You can grab some last minute gifts from the Artisan producers selling ceramics, decorative glass, woodwork, textiles and leather good. Ullswater Steamers are running a spirit of Christmas cruise and Christmas lunch at Dalemain. There has been quite a bit of snow on the Hellvellyn range, which will make for a stunningly scenic cruise followed by lunch at the grand house at Dalemain.Lake District cottages cottages in the Lake District Lake District cottages Worlds Biggest Liar Posted By: Sally Lake District cottages cottages in the Lake District Lake District cottages Christmas Shopping In Kendal Posted By: Sally Lake District cottages cottages in the Lake District Lake District cottages Keswick Is Top Dog Posted By: Sally Lake District cottages cottages in the Lake District Lake District cottages The Eden Valley Posted By: Sally Lake District cottages cottages in the Lake District Lake District cottages Ambleside Outdoor Shops Posted By: Sally Lake District cottages cottages in the Lake District Lake District cottages Holiday Cottages In Lake District Villages Posted By: David Murray In the Lake District there is a very wide mix of holiday cottages. High specification apartments, sometimes in ancient country houses, will appeal to some visitors. Economy grade cottages in village centres, clean but basically equipped , might be more appropriate to the stretched budget of a cost-conscious family in these times of financial constraint. Pet friendly cottages are also widely available. The houses in the Lake District that have now been adapted as holiday accommodation are very varied in their origins. Historic country houses have been turned into top grade accommodation . Old disused barns, miners’ cottages, slate-built terraces and long disused mine buildings all now act as Lake District cottages available as holiday lets. In every area of Lakeland self-catering holiday cottages are available from local people, such as individual farmers. Many proprietors manage everything themselves. Others prefer to employ specialists to do it for them. When you rent your cottage via an agency, in some cases their office staff will be the only people you deal with , but sometimes time there you will deal direct with the proprietor regarding any day to day questions.Lake District cottages Holiday cottages Lake District cottages in Lake District Self-catering Lake District Holiday cottages in the Lake District Self Lake District cottages Posted By: Sally Greystoke is a charming little village with traditional slate roofed cottages dating from the 17th century. Just five miles west of Penrith, Greystoke has a pretty village green with an ancient market cross thought to date back to the early 1600s. Unfortunately it has no direct link to Tarzan but we think he once stayed at one of the very first Lake District holiday cottages in the area. Situated opposite the village Green is The Boot and Shoe, a 17th Century Coaching Inn. It is a traditional family owned pub serving homemade meals and locally produced real ale along with specialty curry, steak and tapas nights. All year round you will find an eclectic range of live music performed on Sunday afternoons. Watch out for the Christmas Carols along with traditional mulled wine and mince pies. If you are not tired enough after a day in the fells you can join in with the Boot Music Jam session playing, singing or just listening, every 2nd and 4th Monday. Greystoke holds a beer festival with live music in September raising funds for the open-air swimming pool.Cottages in the Lake District Lake District cottages Keswick cottages Cottages in the Lake District Santa Special At Threlkeld Quarry Posted By: Sally On a bitterly cold and grey December afternoon, William and Merryn braved the outside carriages on the Santa Special. They very much enjoyed sitting behind Ian the engine driver and his collie dog Jip, who howled with excitement when the tooting engine horn signalled the start of the ride! Mince pies and mulled wine kept the adults happy whilst there was a trip to see Father Christmas in his decorated portacabin grotto (!) for the children. The Quarry and Museum is normally open seven days a week between Easter and October with plenty on offer for families and adult visitors alike. The location is well within reach of several Keswick cottages in the area. Set in dramatic scenery on the edge of Keswick the Threlkeld Quarry AND Mining Museum is run by enthusiastic staff and volunteers. The site offers an underground tour, a geology and mining museum and a shop. There is free parking should you be travelling from further afield. Sir Tom is a jewel in the crown for the Quarry, having undergone a complete restoration after its arrival in 2001.Cottages in the Lake District Lake District cottages Keswick cottages Cottages in the Lake District Whinlatter Forest (near Keswick) Posted By: Sally self catering lake district lake district cottages holiday cottages lake district cottages in the lake district cottages lake district Keswick co self catering lake district A Remembrance Walk Up Great Gable Posted By: Sally self catering lake district lake district cottages holiday cottages lake district cottages in the lake district cottages lake district Keswick co self catering lake district Keswick Business Woman Praised For Contribution To The County Posted By: Sally self catering lake district lake district cottages holiday cottages lake district cottages in the lake district cottages lake district Keswick co self catering lake district Holker Hall: A Beautiful Stately Home In The Lake District Posted By: Sally self catering lake district lake district cottages holiday cottages lake district cottages in the lake district cottages lake district Keswick co self catering lake district The Keswick Beer Festival Posted By: Sally self catering lake district lake district cottages holiday cottages lake district cottages in the lake district cottages lake district Keswick co self catering lake district Celebrating The Royal Wedding In The Lake District Posted By: Sally self catering lake district lake district cottages holiday cottages lake district cottages in the lake district cottages lake district Keswick co self catering lake district The Rannerdale Bluebells Are Out!
